Pakistan Railways has increased the ticket prices by 8%

Pakistan Railways (PR) has announced a fare hike in response to the recent hike in fuel prices. The ministry has increased fares by 8% from yesterday. The new fares will apply to all trains and classes except the Green Line.

A PR spokesperson said that the recent hike in diesel prices has put a burden on the department of over Rs. 10 million in daily fuel costs. He added that this has prompted the government to increase fuel prices.

Last week, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced Rs. Petrol and diesel prices increased by Rs 35 per litre, effective from January 29 across Pakistan. The minister attributed the increase to an 11 percent increase in the prices of petroleum products in the international market.

After the latest round of price hikes, petrol is now Rs 1.249.80 per liter while diesel is priced at Rs. 262.80 per litre. The increase has shocked the industries and the general public due to the consequent increase in the prices of various commodities, services and industrial activities.
