PEMRA took action against ARY News for airing Imran Khan’s 9 pm speech, only 30 minutes after which it banned the former prime minister’s speeches and media statements on television at 8:26 pm. Circular was issued.
“It has been observed that M/s ARY Communications Limited (ARY News) in their news bulletin dated 05 March 2023 at 9 PM had broadcast clips of the speech delivered by Mr. Imran Khan today at Zaman Park, Lahore. ” said the notification. “ARY News aired the material referred to in willful violation of the prohibition order.” he added.
“Whereas, the Competent Authority namely the Chairman PEMRA in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 30(3) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by the PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007, hereby grants to M. Suspends the license of the channel. ARY Communications Ltd. (ARY News) with immediate effect, till further orders. Read the notification.
