Dubai Trials Driveless Electric Boat, Can Carry 8 Passengers

Dubai’s traditional mode of transportation, the Abra, not only serves as a means of getting around but also represents the emirate’s cultural heritage. The Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has taken a significant step towards modernization by introducing a trial operation of the first self-driving electric Abras, manufactured locally at the RTA’s Al Garhoud Marine Maintenance Centre.

The Autonomous Electric Abra can accommodate up to eight passengers while retaining the authentic design of traditional Abras. The initial journey covered the distance between Al Jaddaf Station and the Festival City Station on the Dubai Creek. This development is aligned with Dubai’s master plan for sustainable and innovative transportation solutions and aims to transform 25% of all mobility journeys into self-driving journeys by 2030.

The introduction of self-driving electric Abras is a step towards a greener and technologically advanced transportation system in Dubai that promotes sustainability and reduces environmental impact.
